At appropriate points, she stops and points out what lesson Dorothy and the other characters can learn from whatever's happening, and that the reader can learn the same lesson. Sure the Bible, Koran and Gita have important insight about human nature and lessons for humanity. But so did The Wizard of Oz. And it had Judy Garland and songs. Author Julienne La Fleur, a Farmington Hills native and California transplant, manages to distill from the 70-year-old film classic a few dozen recommendations for a happier and more successful life in her colorful, 182-page book published last year.
